Here’s a frightening thought, via Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com:»You don’t get any better than Rick Carlisle offense, however, Carlisle’s offense got better this offseason.»
Drink this you in.
Last season, Carlisle’s Mavs tied for second in the league having an offensive rating of 109, decimal points behind the NBA-best Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA.com. Dallas brought to soften the blow, while the loss of genius sniper and facilitator Jose Calderon will sting. And Monta Ellis can consume a few possessions as well, which won’t be a bad thing for the Mavs’ attack.
The increase comes in Chandler Parsons, who’ll play small forward to consume nearly all the wing minutes Shawn Marion and Vince Carter shared. Tyson Chandler mans the middle of everything should be an improved defense.
What Dallas has is delicate. It’s dependent on the health and ongoing potency of Dirk Nowitzki, about whom an offense that is elite may nevertheless be built. That is a remarkable thing to mention about a player, but Nowitzki is, himself remarkable.
As long as he’s able to stand upright, he’ll be a defense-shredder from the high place. And the remainder of the Mavs will play him off as on the strings are pulled by Carlisle from the bench.
Doubt this group of vets at your own risk.
