Francesco Molinari reflects on ‘massive’ win at Wentworth

Francesco Molinari has clarified his BMW PGA Championship win a year as»enormous» due to his optimism and a important element that caused his memorable Open triumph at Carnoustie.
Molinari produced an outstanding display of front-running last May to maintain off playing-partner Rory McIlroy at Wentworth, along with his victory sparked a magnificent series of results which included his key title where he again upstaged Tiger Woods and McIlroy.
The Italian recorded a five wins out of five in the Ryder Cup, though he picked up his silverware at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and has had a quieter 2019.
But he is excited about defending his BMW PGA title in the first September playing of this tournament and stays within the world’s best 10.
Reflecting on his triumph last May, Molinari explained:»It was enormous because I had been in a comparable spot to last year here without having the ability to shut the tournament out. It simply gave me a great deal of confidence.
«I was watching a video of the last few holes on Sunday, and you may see I was uneasy in that place. I think that was the first step forward to getting more comfortable in closing out it and directing a championship.
«I believe if you compare it to Carnoustie, it is pretty simple to find the distinction. I am quite happy how it moved and yeah if I get in that position again this season I’ll hit a third shot into 18!
«The win in the States (Quicken Loans National) obviously helped more moving in the Open, that gave me more confidence then moving in the Ryder Cup. May, June, July have been something it’d be hard to reproduce , especially those three weeks, although I am sure when I quit playing, I will reflect on last year as an amazing year.
«Obviously I’ll work as hard as I can to get it done, but I know I have put a pretty higher standard,» additional Molinari, that seemed on track to collect another big title in the Masters in April, just to find water down over the back nine on Sunday since Woods stormed into his first important success in almost 11 years.
«I had a really good beginning of the season and then, following the Experts, clearly I haven’t done too,» said Molinari, who has not posted a top-10 finish within his eight starts since his Augusta National disappointment.
«I think there has been perhaps some scheduling issues. I have played golf apart from this PGA, at the other types. I am not happy how I played in the other tournaments, although I am happy the way I played at the US Open and The Open.
«It’s hard to pinpoint one reason as to why. I have talked to the people around me and we are trying to figure out how best to proceed, and to play golf»
